Bill Goodwin, is/was also an owner in a property called Upper Brandon, 282-acres on the James River.

Upper Brandon, extraordinary c. 1825 historic Federal or early Classical Revival-style brick Virginia estate listed on both the National Register of Historic Places & the Virginia Landmarks Register. Located in Prince George County within close proximity to Richmond & Williamsburg, Upper Brandon sits on the southern shore of the James River and enjoys extensive river frontage with spectacular views. The manor home along with two dependencies, each connected to the main structure by “hyphens” or underground passages, represents the first phase of construction – all competed in 1825. In 1859, two wings were added to the main structure, completing the second phase of construction. Upper Brandon, along with other fine Virginia Plantations such as Carter’s Grove, is noted for its five-part Palladian plan, large-scale, Flemish bond brickwork & intricate woodwork derived from Asher Benjamin’s pattern book. The floor plan of the main structure is rectangular w/four corner rooms divided by a center hall, which is repeated in the basement & second floor – each floor w/approximately 3,645 sq.ft. The home was carefully renovated around 1986 w/minimal changes. Almost all of the fine interior woodwork is original representing an era of quality, detailed craftsmanship – rarely found in today’s homes. Grand old willow oaks & tulip poplars along with the remains of a large serpentine boxwood garden, one of only two such gardens known from that period in Virginia, the second at Monticello, beautifully enhance the grounds at Upper Brandon. A varied collection of structures are offered with this historic property including a 4-bay detached garage, a restored 4 bedroom guest house, manager’s residence, old smoke House, the original icehouse and a slave house, which now serves as a museum
